How would you like a New Year’s resolution worksheet 2022 can end with in style? I’ve got you! I’ve used this worksheet for a couple of years now with my secondary / high school students and they really love it! It helps them learn about setting goals, facing challenges, and improving things in the new year.
The start of a new year is a perfect time to reevaluate things. What has gone well this year and what has not gone so well? It’s a great time to ask students what they would do differently if they had a chance. And this worksheet helps them determine this by getting them to take on a 5-day challenge. Let me tell you why this 2022 New Year’s resolutions worksheet for students is so fun!
New Year’s resolution goals worksheet
Ok, so this New Year’s resolution worksheet starts with a video about Matt Cutts. He does 30-day challenges in his life to kick bad habits and try out new things. He’s really good at explaining what he does and how it helps him in life. Students have to answer a couple of questions about this video to check their comprehension.
Then they will read a blog post by the same Matt and again answer some questions. This time about their opinion on his new challenges. After that, they will brainstorm some New Year’s resolutions that people might have in the following categories: health, friends, family, and school. Hopefully they will be able to come up with some ideas in each category.
The next task is then to discuss these ideas in their small groups. I like them to talk about the ideas that they have and share thoughts with one another. About whether they have tried any of these resolutions, and which ones would be easy enough to accomplish, or which would be hard.
What’s your favorite?
Next, I want them to choose their favorite three out of all of the ideas that they’ve heard or written down. These three must be from different categories each. And finally, from these three, they will choose one goal to do a five-day challenge on. This means that they will stick with that activity for five days in a row. Before they start, they must write down all the things they might need to accomplish that goal. For example, if they want to talk to their friends more, they’ll need a phone and free time to call them every day.
For these five days, they must keep a diary for each day of the challenge in which they will write how it went, what was hard, and what was easy. And of course how they felt about sticking to their goal. After the five days are done, they are asked to present to their classmates how their five-day challenge went. This is a great activity to practice speaking and also listening for the rest of the students.
Lastly, the other students must ask questions while their classmates present. This gives them an opportunity to really listen to their classmates and respond appropriately in the target language.
New Year’s resolutions 2022 worksheet fun!
And that’s it: from start to finish the five-day challenge for New Year’s resolutions! My students always love this activity because it’s low pressure, as a challenge is only five days long. It’s also a way for them to try out a new thing that they may end up really liking. And the challenge teaches them about grit, determination, and sticking to your goals.
Plus, it’s a really good opportunity to practice their language skills, of course!
